One Word.

What’s the one word that will guide you this year?

There’s tremendous power in a word – especially when the word is meant for you. As an executive, you are greeted each day with a bombardment of difficult decisions and complex problems. Then out comes a massive toolkit you’ve impressively assembled throughout your career to draw upon. But is that toolkit enough to guide you toward your highest purpose? Help you stay focused on what is truly important? Does it give you a meaningful lens for every decision, every action?

The answer most likely is, “it does not.”

I often hear from senior leaders like you many words to describe their goals for the new year. Maybe it’s “more direct conversations.” Or “to become more strategic.” Those are important goals, but they are just competencies, and a relatively small part of your leadership essence.

As a senior leader a singular word can hold your attention. It can propel you to a quantum leap. A word that can accompany you to a whole new level on a lifelong maturity curve. Your word, in its beautiful simplicity, can be transformational. It will impact your life and the lives of those you serve.

So, find your word. Yes, there’s a simplicity to the word, but it may not be simple to define.

Take your time. Be thoughtful. Dig deep.

It can change your life.
